Privacy
What we keep, what our partners see, and how to switch the ad partners off.
The short version
We keep what it takes to run your account: your email address and, once you subscribe, the link to your Stripe customer record. We never see your card number.
When we switch on analytics and ad partners, you can turn the ad partners off below, and they stay off if your browser sends Global Privacy Control.
Your account
- Email and password. We store your email address and a salted, scrambled form of your password (a hash). Never the password itself.
- Continue with Google. We store your email address and the ID Google gives your account. Google does not share your Google password with us.
- Either way, the account record also holds when it was created, whether you have used the free trial, and your Stripe customer ID once you subscribe.
Before we stopped sending email, visitors could join a free email list. We no longer send to it, and any address on it is deleted when you ask.
Payments
Stripe runs checkout and billing. You type your card into Stripe's page, not ours, so we never see or store your card number. Stripe tells us whether your membership is active or in its trial. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what Stripe keeps.
What your browser stores
We set no cookies of our own. The site keeps a few small notes in your browser's storage:
- your sign-in token, while you are logged in;
- your sort choice, and which deals you have already seen (so new ones stand out);
- a checkout receipt waiting to be attached to your account, until it is;
- your ad-partner choice from this page, and a note that a trial start was already counted.
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it and logs you out. If you choose "Continue with Google", Google's sign-in button loads from Google. The hosts that serve our pages (GitHub Pages and Cloudflare) see your IP address and browser type, as any web host does.
Analytics and ad partners
When we switch them on, these partners load on our pages and set their own cookies. They help us see which pages people use and show our ads to people likely to want them.
- Google Analytics counts visits and which pages are used. It runs for everyone, with its ad features (Google signals and ad personalization) off when you opt out below or your browser sends Global Privacy Control.
- Google Ads, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, Pinterest and Microsoft Advertising (Bing) learn that a visitor came from one of our ads, and whether they signed up, started checkout, started a trial or clicked a deal. They do not load at all when you opt out below or your browser sends Global Privacy Control.
Their code sees the page you are on, as any such tag does. On top of that we tell them only those events, plus the store and category of a deal you click: never your email address, and never which item or price.
Your privacy choices
Ad partners in this browser: on
Your browser sends Global Privacy Control, so the ad partners stay off here whatever this button says.
Your browser blocks this site's storage, so we can't remember this choice. Global Privacy Control works instead.
Your choice applies to this browser and takes effect on the next page you open.
Global Privacy Control is a setting in some browsers and extensions that tells every site you visit not to sell or share your data. We treat it as an opt-out.
Deleting your data
Email [email protected] from the address on your account and ask us to delete it.
Write to us through the contact page from the address on your account and ask us to delete it.
We delete your account record and any address on the old email list. If you are a member, say so and we end your membership too. Stripe keeps its own payment records.
